Private Tastings

1. Informal tastings in the wine shop, with canapés.

A help-yourself tasting from a selection of 24 wines on our extraordinary ‘Enomatic’ machines. The tasting includes:

A tasting card per guest (which gives 8-12 samples, depending which wines you taste).

An introduction to the wines by the shop manager, who is then on hand to help and chat.

Four bite-sized canapés per person (these are delicious but very light; they are an appetizer rather than a snack).

£17.95 per head. For groups of up to 30. Normally lasts around one hour.

See terms and conditions on next page for how to book and confirm.

You are welcome to book a table in the restaurant afterwards, but there is no obligation to do so. (See Private Party Menus for information on menus for larger groups and also private room hire, should that be preferred).

To understand the Enomatic machines better, please see the Wine Shop page on the website. The wines change monthly - there is always a fantastic range of styles and quality levels. However we cannot tell you in advance exactly what will be ‘on show’.

2. Wine tasting with/during your lunch/dinner party

If you simply want to add a wine tasting to your lunch or dinner party we can of course oblige.

Book your meal in the normal way with our sales team (menus for private dining are from £39 per person; room hire rates depend on the room and the date).

We can give you a mini blind tasting of 3 whites before your starter and 3 reds before your mains. As usual, the wines will be blind, so we will be asking you to guess what the wines are.

The charge for this is £29 per person (in addition to the meal cost), which includes:

- Blind tasting of 3 whites and 3 reds, tutored by one of our senior team.

- A glass of one of those whites with your starter and one of the reds (or another glass of white) with your main. Extra wine can then be ordered by the bottle from the restaurant wine list in the normal way.

- This assumes you are a minimum of 15 guests.

See terms and conditions that follow.

3. Private tutored tasting of 7 wines, followed by a 2 course meal.

This is a formal, sit-do

3. Private tutored tasting of 7 wines, followed by lunch or dinner.

This is a formal, sit-down tasting, but very much designed to entertain; the atmosphere is very light-hearted. The normal format is as follows:

- Use of a private room for the tasting, with proper tasting glasses, pencils, tasting sheets.

- Blind tasting of 7 wines before lunch or dinner (one sparkling, three white, three red), tutored by one of our senior team (lasts approximately 90 minutes)

- Bottled water, home-made biscuits and a little cheese to nibble on during the tasting

- A fairly simple meal to follow, with 2 glasses of wine per person, and coffee or tea.

For this tasting we choose the wines to be used. You are welcome to express a preference for styles you like, but the wines will be down to us.

We will suggest a menu for your approval, but it will be a no-choice menu, although of course we can accommodate all dietary issues.

We can of course customize the formula, but extra charges may apply depending what you choose.

For groups of 16+ the cost is £65 per person if having a 2 course & coffee menu.

£72 for 3 courses. Add £5 per person for Saturday evenings. See below for smaller groups.

4. Fine wine Tutored Tasting, by John Hoskins, Master of Wine and owner of the Old Bridge, with lunch or dinner

This is a formal, sit-down, educational tasting, but (don’t worry) it will still be relaxed and non-intimidating for those not obsessed by wine! John will agree with you a theme – normally a blind tasting of a region or a comparison of 2 different regions or grape varieties.

- Tutored tasting of 8 wines from the good to the world-class.

- Use of private room for the tasting, with proper tasting glasses, pencils, tasting sheets

- Iced water, home-made biscuits and a little cheese to nibble on

- Three course Lunch or Dinner to follow, either in the tasting room or in the restaurant.

For groups of 16+ the cost is £85 per person (£95 Saturdays).

Wine with the meal is extra, in the normal way. Or we can simply add £10 and provide a good glass of white or red with both starter and main.

Costs of Option 3 & 4, for groups smaller than 16.

For 11-15 people, cost increases by £10 per person

For 9-10 people, cost increases by £20 per person

For 6-8 people, cost increases by £30 per person

For parties of 10 or less then the tasting would be in a private room (in the Riverside Rooms) and your dinner would be served in the main Terrace Restaurant.

Less than 6 are may be better to have a tasting in the Shop, then eat in the Restaurant, perhaps choosing wines that you have tasted to go with your meal.
